SRS Grants proving to be very popular

September 16, 2008

Our $5,000 to $8,500 grants have proven to be very popular with many MTF‘s seeking penenctomy, orchiectomy, and of course feminizing vaginoplasty.   In the first day we received 10 serious inquiries and several more today.   Surprisingly some patients are not ready to schedule surgery,  but are thinking about it and realize this is something that does not come along everyday.  To help make this attainable for everybody, those that have saved enough to make a substantial deposit will be included, and then can defer surgery till such a time as  their job permits or a loved one can travel to sunny Miami with them.  When one considers that others charge extra for a scrotal graft extension and we do this free and touch ups are done at no added charge, this is perhaps the best value going today.

Seems that established post op patients who would be the last to look at transgender news items are alerting new ones.  Our recovery hotel of preference is the Baltic Hotel where Christine the manager owner has taken a special interest in our patients.  Usually at any one time, several are in the building.  She has transported patients in her shiny new silver Hummer, made breakfast and coffee for them and helped with take out orders.

One day during rounds I was surprised to see one of my old patients sitting in the lounge within her,  just chatting away.  She came back just to visit Christine.

  4. Hello, I am a 27 year old male to female transsexual, I have been trying to determine the aggregate cost for a total sex change, and would also be interested in getting information regarding these grants. As it is, I have been somewhat living as a drag queen if you would, for roughly ten years, however the desire to physically become a female has been there since 16-17 years of age. Any information you could give would be greatly appreciated.

  5. Hello Dr Reed, I am a MTF transsexual in absolute need of SRS and possibly some FFS as well. I have been on an accelerated HRT program though my specialist and on hormones for the past year, and have received a Declaration of Gender Change Complete from my doctor as well. I am of low income and could certainly use the help of receiving a grant which would help offset the expense I am faced with in getting myself corrected. I have been aware of my female self since I was 6 years old. There is currently a fundraiser on my behalf through founder Sally Hall of ThatsSoGayLive.com out of San Diego. I was just wanting to know more about the SRS grants and how I might qualify. Please email me with information necessary for this or other considerations.

    Sincerely,
    Stephenie P.

  6. Our SRS grants were based upon testicular donation to a research lab, and regretfully their study concluded testes exposed to estrogens were not helpful in their project.

However, we can always be sympathetic to your needs, if you call the office.

    Best,

    Harold M. Reed, M.D.
