Please provide some more background information. Was he rushed, not cleared by 2 therapists, was the doctor “working” too fast? Adequate consultation? Who did the surgery?

Hello Dr. Reed… sorry I haven’t returned your message…. My friend had surgery done in 2002, in Alberta. He was “cleared” by therapists… but he always felt that the “doctor knew best” … he had suffered a complete meltdown because of losing his sister in death…and at this time he said he was always “confused” and felt he didn’t know if he was born right, or what. I do not have the name of the doctor, but the surgery was done in Calgary, AB (2002) He had the surgery anyways, but did not have the breast part of the surgery done, although he was taking hormones…and he did not change his name or “status” to a female one. Can a surgery be done to “correct” what he calls his “mistake that he may have to live with” …what is entailed in the surgery… where can it be done….
any help you can give is greatly appreciated… this has affected his relationship with his family to the point that it is constantly being brought up ..that he is no longer “whole”… He does not feel that he is a female… and wonders if the doctors he went to before, had an “agenda” of sorts that they were “taking advantage” of his mental condition.

As a transgender women of color, I believe that you have to know what your getting into with this kind of surgury, I am waiting to get my surgery done because I have to save alittle more money, but I know that it is some thing that will affect my life, and I know that at t he age of 43, I know that it will bring me great benefits in my future. I’ve learned and reseached all of the other stories and talked to other women and i feel i know what is right for me. I believe you can’t just rush into this type of surgury. Its a process.
