My Insurance Pays for Vaginoplasty, this will help

Dr. Reed,  I have learned my insurance companies pays for transgender surgery, can you make thus work as I’d really like to come to you for an affordable transgender vaginoplasty.  Marissa

Dear Marissa,  Yes, we want you to have an affordable vaginoplasty.  If your insurance company will pay us directly and commit in a letter to the exact fee, we may be to accept that.  However, insurance companies are often perhaps intentionally non-committing and not approachable in answering these easy questions.  Almost like a Presidential news conference. If you have faith you’ve found the right one, let us make a conference call and see how easy and pleasant they are.

Another bit of information that could be helpful, is if our hospital accepts your insurance, we can reduce facility expenses that you would normally pay at the office and anesthesia down to zero, as this will go through hospital billing.  They talk the talk, let’s see if they do the walk.  Who better than you to find out these important specific answers.

Because of this, our policy is not to accept assignment from any insurance company.  “Accepting assignment” means Dr. Reed allows the insurance company to determine what Dr. Reed will charge and accept for transsexual surgery and pay the doctor all or a part, based on that amount.  On December 18, 2015) we have learned Medicare is refusing to reimburse a patient any amount because we do not maintain electronic records (we do at the Hospital) or b. do not do electronic billing or c. accept assignment.  This area has yet to be clarified.  So for the time being, what had worked in the past is not working now.

The Hospital and anesthesia provider, if you are done at the Hospital as far as we know, will accept Medicare or your participating insurance company.  If you have any questions or concerns please call Medicare or your insurance provider or the Hospital.

On February 6, 2015 our office has received a confirmation letter from First Coast a CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services), saying that our PTAN (provider transaction access number) has been deactivated upon our request. This is to say our office no longer accepts assignment or works with Medicare directly.  For any questions, please confer with Medicare or your insurance provider directly for the most authoritative answer.

Lastly, you are always welcome to call Anne at our office for a compassionate vaginoplasty discount.  That we can do.  Please look at our web-site srsmiami.com/mtf-vaginoplasty for before and after pictures of vaginoplasty sex change.
