Dear Dr. Reed, I am 60 year old transgendered woman and have been passable as a woman for 5 years. I’d like to stop the Spironolactone and reduce the estrogens because of my age. So what I am seeking is just an orchiectomy and scrotal removal. Would you consider that? Reneeka
We do numerous transgender orchiectomies every year and have done several with scrotal removal. If you later decide you wish to have a feminizing vaginoplasty, there are techniques to give you vaginal depth. If you look at the photo below you will still see some perineal skin even though the scrotum is removed. Typically we do these procedures under local with IV conscious sedation. We ask that you stay at a nearby hotel for about 3 days with a generous amount of bed rest.
You will need 2 letters of therapy clearance as this is an “irreversible” procedure.
