Orchiectomy needed, how soon could I go back to work

Dear Dr. Reed

I have been living as a woman for 4 years and would like to proceed with a transsexual orchiectomy in Miami this July.

I work as a receptionist in a dental office.  How soon do you think I could go back to work?

Dear Marylou,

A typical scenario is to initiate a consultation over the phone.,  2 letters of therapy clearance are

required for an orchiectomy.  We request one is written by a therapist with a doctoral degree.  If you are over 40 or on medications other than hormones, you may need a letter of medical clearance and some lab (CBC, platelet count) PT and PTT.

We ask that you stop hormones and spironolactone for a month before your procedure.  We would see you the day before surgery which is usually done under local with IV sedation,

and ask that you stay at a nearby hotel for 2 days to convalesce.  Anticipate returning to an office environment a week.  I think you’ll be fine.
