(FAQ) Need more vaginal depth | The Reed Centre for Transgender Surgery | Miami

Dr. Reed, Had vaginoplasty and my vaginal depth is 1 1/2″.  Totally unsuitable for sex.  What is the likelihood you can deepen my vagina.  Looking for vaginal depth, not anal sex. Natasha

Dear Natasha,

Vaginal depth and male to female vaginoplasty goes hand in hand.  Post-op dilation regularly is important.  Often a patient will be able to increase vaginal depth with proper use of dilators or stents.  Remember, keep the handle (or shank) parallel to the floor if you are lying on your back and direct the tip towards your umbilicus (belly button).  Anal sex will thin out the wall between your rectum and vagina and enhance the possibility of a rectal-vaginal fistula.  Especially, if you are having a vaginoplasty revision surgery, you should stop 8 weeks before.

Sometimes estrogen creams will enhance vascularity and make the tissue more amenable to stretching. We also prescribe numbing creams to make this practice more comfortable.  Please look at before and after male to female sex change pictures on our web-site to get an idea of what we can do.
