Transgender orchiectomy preparation

Dr. Reed  Need a transgender orchiectomy.  What preparation is required for orchiectomy and when can I return to work?  Patricia

Dear Patricia,

Transgender orchiectomy, once you have adequate anesthesia, takes about 15 to 20 minutes.  You should initiate a consultation with our office, so I can review your medical history and verify that you have 2 letters of therapy clearance, as this is an irreversible procedure. You will also need a CBC (complete blood count with platelets) and a PT and PTT.  These are 2 tests to confirm that you are not a bleeder.   I would like to see you at the office the day before orchiectomy, and then encourage you to stay overnight at a nearby hotel especially if you are from out of ton.  2 days of convalescence is suggested before returning home, unless you live in the Miami area.

You could return to an office based environment about 4 days after surgery.  No strenuous labor for a few weeks.

Please visit our web-site srsMiami.com for before and after male to female pictures.

Cordially,

Harold M. Reed, M.D.
