Transgender Vaginal Depth | Dr. Reed | Miami

Dr. Reed,  Had a Male to Female (MTF) vaginoplasty and did not keep up with my dilatations as recommended.  Is there an easy way to re-establish the original depth which the surgeon says was 6 inches.

Dear Karla,

Depending upon what you have now, you may wish to consider a trial of tapered and curved vaginal dilators.  Starting with a dilator that is 7/8″ in diameter.  Be dedicated to a dilating regiment of at least 15 to 20″ 3 to 4 times a day.  I had a similar patient who had a long work list of vaginoplasty revisions that included bringing her depth from 4″ to 6″, and a week before surgery, she called me to say, the operation was a go for everything except depth because she regained depth just by simple “home work”  In preparing an article on our Non-Grafted Approach for Vaginal Depth enhancement, over 80 articles were reviewed and most described vaginal atresia (loss of depth) secondary to failure to dilate.
