Transsexual vaginoplasty, how old do I have to be?

Dr. Reed,  How soon would you be able to perform male to female transsexual gender reassignment vaginoplasty?  I am entering high school and have been living as a female for 6 years.  Saw pictures of transgender vaginoplasty on your web-site  Brenda

Dear Brenda,

Perhaps, I am more cautious than other transgender surgeons.  This is irreversible surgery.  Generally speaking perhaps once you are 18 or over.  You will need 2 letters from therapists with doctoral degrees recommending you for surgery.  While legally you are an adult at 18, I would also like to see parental support.  You may gain some more weight and height in a few more years and be a safer surgical candidate.  Also inverted adult sized penile skin will allow for a deeper vagina. Please get some other opinions.
