Dr. Reed, Would like an orchiectomy. Have been living as a woman for 6 years, when I first started hormones. During this time I’ve been well accepted as a woman and use the ladies bathroom with no difficulties. What do I need to do? Do I need electrolysis? Allison
If you are healthy and have reasonably good height weight conformation, please stop estrogens for 1 month prior as they are coagulopathic (can cause blood clots immediately after surgery). You do not need electrolysis. If you are over 40, you will need a letter of medical clearance with reference to an EKG. In our practice 2 letters of therapy clearance a required. I’m not saying you need therapy, but I do need reassurance the likelihood of remorse or regret you had an orchiectomy is very low. If you are married, I also need a letter of approval from your wife as issues of loss of consortium and depriving her of an expected fertile relationship are involved. Please see male to female before and after pics on our web-site srsMiami.com
