Which is a better insurance company for SRS surgery

June 17, 2015

Dr. Reed,

Do you have idea of which provider is better for SRS, Aetna or Kaiser ?
I’ve to choose between those two.

Good morning Roseanne,

I don’t know. Best to confer directly with them. As you know, we do not accept assignment from any insurance company, so the question you’ll want to ask about “out of network benefits.” By that I mean will they give you a check to help cover the surgery expense. And will they pay the hospital and anesthesia services at the hospital directly? If they say “yes”, that’s good, because we’ll reduce our fees. Hope that brings a smile to your face. We want to work and we want you to be happy as well.

One piece of advice I can give you is that in your letters of therapy clearance, be sure to ask your therapists (if they agree) to write that “the surgery is medically necessary.”
